It might be hard to believe, but spring is right around the corner, y’all! And with the sunshine and warm weather comes the opportunity for us to spruce up our closets and start fresh. Trust me, an organized closet is a girl’s best friend. Not only will it help your busy mornings run smoother, but you’ll also be able to navigate your wardrobe easier, making that “I have nothing to wear” excuse a thing of the past!

Spring cleaning may feel like a daunting task, so start small with your closet. Here are some steps to take to spring clean your closet like a pro!

Clear It Out!

Begin by totally clearing everything out of your closet. And by everything, I mean everything. This will give you a clean slate to work with. Once you’ve taken everything out, you can start sorting through your clothes, shoes, and accessories.

Ask the Important Questions!

Ask these questions to yourself when sorting through your clothes and other things:

  1. Will I wear this? This is a no-brainer. If you don’t see yourself wearing something in the next six months, or if the item has been hanging in your closet for six months without being worn, it’s time to say goodbye. If you bought something several months ago and it still has the tags attached, that’s a good sign that you probably will never wear it.
  2. Does this fit me, and am I comfortable in it? If the answer is no or maybe, you probably aren’t going to reach for that sweater the next time you’re getting dressed. Your clothes should make you feel confident, so keep only the things you love to wear!
  3. Does this still represent my style? Sometimes we hold on to clothing because we once loved it dearly. But those parachute pants you wore back in college don’t represent you anymore, so don’t let them take up room in your closet!
  4. It is still in good condition? Even if you love those boots with the hole in the toe, it is time to replace them. Clothing that is not in good shape does not represent you accurately, so take out the items that are torn, stained, or otherwise damaged.

Organization is Key!

Once you’ve cleared out your closet and sorted through everything, it’s time to start putting your best clothes back in an organized fashion. Make use of the space you have by utilizing shelving, shoe racks, or dividers. The most importation thing here is to organize everything in a way that makes sense to you.

Sell, Donate, or Throw Away!

You be the judge here. Sort through the items you decided against and sell, donate, or throw them away. Once you are done, I promise you will feel the sweet relief of being neat and tidy, and you will be one step closer to being ready for all the beautiful things spring has to offer!
