Summer means all the reasons to show more skin – whether you are trying to beat the heat at the beach or just moving around fighting heat in minimal clothes. But if you want your skin to face the rays with more confidence, it is important to keep up with the best skin tips for this summer.
Exfoliation – Why Do I Need It?
Summer also gives you all the reasons to exfoliate your skin more. It is the best way to remove dulling, dead skin. Exfoliation is essential for improving hydration from moisturizers and toners and also prevents congestion.
Add an additional exfoliation step in your skincare routine when summers hit. Exfoliation should be carried out before moisturizers, toner, or any makeup.
What I Suggest: Here are some exfoliation recipes for your summer skincare routine.
Normal Skin Exfoliating Scrub Honey White Sugar (use brown sugar for sensitive skin) Water Splash of Lemon Juice
- Mix equal parts honey, sugar & water. Add a splash of lemon juice.
- Gently massage, with fingertips in circular motions, to your face & neck.
Gentle Facial Exfoliating Scrub 1 cup of ground oatmeal 1/2 cup of powdered milk (whole or non-fat is fine) 2 tsp. cornmeal Filtered Water
- Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl before transferring to a sealable container.
- To use the scrub, combine 1 tbsp. of your scrub with enough filtered water to form a thick paste. Gently massage in circular motions over your face and neck. Rinse with warm water and pat your skin dry.
Yields: approx. 16 ounces of scrub Application: Use three times a week Storage: 16-ounce plastic or glass container
Just like your body, your skin is in need of intense hydration too. Make sure your skin care regimen includes detailed hydration with intensive masques. Another great way to keep your skin hydrated is to use boosters that work wonders under layers of moisturizer.
Make sure you pick up a hydrating moisturizer for skin prep.
What I Suggest: Moisturizing should be your first step before applying any SPF or makeup. This will keep your skin hydrating and give your makeup a dewy-finish look.
H2O is Your Best Friend
Rising temperatures and more sun contact leads to external as well as internal dehydration. Both of these have an instant impact on our health and skin. This could lead to dizziness, headaches and dull skin.
Make sure you have at least 8 oz. of filtered, plain water every day. This is ideal for maintaining the required H2O level in your body as well as for creating the moisture balance for your skin. It is also essential for detoxification.
In case you are into caffeinated beverages, the amount of water you consume should be tripled!
What I Suggest: Stick to pure and plain water only. Assuming fruit juices, drinks and sodas are all in liquid form and can help your body stay fresh and energized in summer will be your worst mistake ever. So stick to water only!
When in Doubt, Keep Applying
Sunscreen is essential. However, applying only that and believing your skin is protected from sun is not enough. Sunscreen should be applied and reapplied every time you feel the need.
But how much is required? A teaspoon full should be enough for your face. For your body, cover every part exposed to the sun and you are good to go.
What I Suggest: Research is important. With so much technology and so many formulas available today, finding the right products for your skin type can be a difficult decision. Learn about your skin type, see if you have any skin condition and then choose the right product.
Chemical-free formulas are best. So do your homework before stocking up on your best skin care products for summer time.
